John and David visit New York in 2002. Here we’re on the Stanton island ferry with the less famous skyline in the hazy background, it is only 6 months since the world trade centre was attacked, there is a powerful light beam going up into the air from ground zero every night during this first year after the attack

At ground zero, the site is only partially cleared and this amazing wall of memories is a very moving testament to the nearly 3000 people who lost their lives.

This building, the nearest to ground zero is shrouded in a huge black drape, in memory. This building will have to be demolished as its foundations have been damaged by the events.

On a lighter note, dad was somewhat surprised to be taken to the Empire State Building. Here the observation deck on the 86th floor give great views across new York City. Dad enjoyed the achievement! 2002

John and Irene taking the Paris Metro (reasonably) in their stride! David, videographer extraordinaire (!) has his rather bulky video camera in tow. Used to do video one day and stills the next! 1994

Visiting Chambord Chateau, Loire in 1994. In fact dad had agoraphobia (fear of open spaces) he found the wide stairs inside impossible…

David, dad and the boys enjoying the Rainforest Cafe in Disney, 2000. Wonderful animatronic elephant that would roar and wave its trunk periodically!

Can’t remember if dad actually went on the ride, but I think maybe he did! Disneyland fronteirland, 2000
