John studied music teaching at Dartington Hall in Devon. It was a fabulous year for him, meeting Yahoode menuhin and he spent time with fellow student Jacqueline Dupree

When John & Irene and the boys lived in Devon for a year back in 1962/3 we all stayed here, in Challis House, Sampford Peverell. There were steam trains on the local line, some of the only steam rains left as diesels and beechings cuts were all happening!

John taught piano lesons for many years from home after he stopped teaching full-time. Irene would often entertain the parents in their lounge upstairs. John had as many as 24 students a week at its height, this photo, Mundesley, June 1989
